Rival Sea School
Based on the banks of the  Swale at Longreach, opposite the Isle of Sheppey, the calm waters of the river offer an ideal opportunity to practice slow speed boat handling yet, just a few minutes downstream, and we're out in the expanse of the Thames estuary and some very challenging water.

LEVEL 1    INTRODUCTION TO POWERBOATING

Preparation
Launching and recovering, safety equipment, pre-start checks, personal buoyancy

Boat handling techniques & manoeuvres
Starting and stopping, use of kill cord, steering controls, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, being towed.

Theory & background
IRPCS, rope work, awareness of other water users.
 

LEVEL 2    NATIONAL POWERBOAT CERTIFICATE.   Includes International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

Preparation
Launching and recovering, safety equipment, lines and fenders, fuel tanks

Boat handling techniques & manoeuvres
Effects of current or tide, high and low speed manoeuvring, propeller controls, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard

Theory & background
Types of craft and engine, maintenance checks, IRPCS, weather forecasts, emergency action

INTERMEDIATE

Theory
Planning a day cruise, Navigation, GPS, Charts, Pilot books, IRPCS, Tides

Practical
Boat preperation, Boat handling, Pilotage, Passage making, Man overboard

ADVANCED  POWERBOAT COURSE

Assumed Knowledge:
Candidates should be competent to National Powerboat Level 2
